The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian government to urgently wade into the lingering dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

The House Committee on Public Service Matters made the call on Wednesday.

The Chairman, Sani Bala, gave the charge to the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit to the Bureau’s office in Abuja.

Bala expressed dismay over ASUU’s directive asking its members “not to enroll for a noble policy like IPPIS, which seeks to entrench accountability, and fight corruption in public service”.

He emphasized the need for BPSR to quickly mediate with a view to arriving at an amicable resolution acceptable to both parties.

The Committee also applauded the Bureau for implementing and monitoring critical administrative and fiscal reforms geared towards enhancing the efficiency of service-delivery in the federal civil service.

In his remark, Dasuki Arabi, the Director General of BPSR, informed the lawmakers that the Bureau is working assiduously to bring both the government and ASUU to the negotiation table.
