Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon, was unable to preserve his royal lineage due to his harsh and oppressive rule over the people of Israel. After the death of Solomon, the people came to Rehoboam asking for relief from the heavy burdens and labor that his father had placed upon them. Instead of listening to the advice of the older, wiser counselors, Rehoboam chose to heed the counsel of his younger, more aggressive advisors and responded to the people with even harsher words.
This led to a rebellion against Rehoboam’s rule, with the northern tribes of Israel breaking away to form their own kingdom under Jeroboam. As a result, the kingdom of Israel was divided, and Rehoboam was only able to maintain control over the southern kingdom of Judah. This division ultimately led to the decline and eventual downfall of the Davidic dynasty, as the two kingdoms became embroiled in conflict and were eventually conquered by foreign powers.
Rehoboam’s failure to listen to the concerns of his people and his inability to govern with wisdom and compassion ultimately led to the loss of his royal lineage and the fragmentation of the kingdom of Israel.
(b)
(I) Lack of unity and division: Rehoboam’s kingship faced the problem of division among the people, with the northern tribes rebelling against his rule. Similarly, modern day governance often struggles with political and social divisions, leading to lack of unity and cooperation in decision-making and policy implementation.
(ii) Lack of effective leadership and communication: Rehoboam’s kingship was marked by his failure to effectively lead and communicate with the people, leading to rebellion and unrest. Modern day governance also faces challenges related to ineffective leadership and communication, which can result in poor decision-making, lack of trust in government institutions, and ultimately, social and political instability.

NUMBER 3
(3a)
Solomon, known for his wisdom, faced challenges that led to his downfall. His accumulation of wealth, power, and wives drew him away from his devotion to God. His numerous marriages to foreign women resulted in adopting their beliefs, leading to idolatry, which contradicted God’s teachings. His excessive spending and taxation to maintain his lavish lifestyle also led to discontent among his people. Ultimately, Solomon’s moral choices of indulgence and straying from his faith contributed to the fragmentation of his kingdom after his death.
(b)
Wisdom in Decision-making: Solomon’s wisdom enabled fair judgment, crucial for leaders. It’s vital to consider all aspects before making decisions impacting others.
Integrity and Responsibility: Despite his wisdom, Solomon’s moral decline stemmed from compromising values. Leaders should uphold integrity and take responsibility for their actions.
Humility and Accountability: Even great leaders can falter. Solomon’s story emphasizes the importance of humility, acknowledging mistakes, and being accountable for one’s actions

SECTION B
NUMBER FIVE
(5a)
One day, as Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee, the crowd was pressing in on Him to hear the word of God. Seeing two boats at the water’s edge, the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. One of these boats belonged to Simon, who would later be known as Peter.
Jesus, wanting to address the crowd without being pressed too closely, got into Simon’s boat and asked him to put out a little from the shore. From there, He taught the people.
When Jesus had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon, a seasoned fisherman, responded with a hint of skepticism, explaining that they had worked hard all night and caught nothing. Nevertheless, he agreed to do as Jesus said.
Once they had cast the nets into the deep water, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. Both boats were filled with fish to the point of almost sinking.
Witnessing this miraculous catch, Simon Peter fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” Peter recognized the divine power at work and felt unworthy to be in the presence of such holiness.
But Jesus reassured him, saying, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” In that moment, Jesus called Simon Peter to follow Him and become a fisher of men. Simon, along with his partners James and John (sons of Zebedee), left everything and followed Jesus.

NUMBER SIX
(6a)
In the context of the Bible, this statement is made by a disciple of Jesus to a traveler who is unaware of the events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. The disciple then proceeds to recount the events that had taken place in Jerusalem, including Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. This conversation is part of the narrative of the road to Emmaus, where Jesus appears to two of his disciples after his resurrection. The disciples are initially unaware of Jesus’ identity, but as they walk and talk with him, they come to recognize him as their risen Lord. This encounter serves as a pivotal moment in the post-resurrection accounts of Jesus in the New Testament.
(b)
(I) Recognizing Jesus in Unexpected Moments: In the story of the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35), two disciples were walking and discussing the events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion and the reports of His resurrection. They were joined by a stranger (Jesus Himself, although they did not recognize Him at first). The lesson here is that Jesus can reveal Himself in unexpected moments and in various forms. It encourages Christians to remain open to encountering Jesus even in situations where His presence may not be immediately apparent.
(ii) Understanding Scripture and its Connection to Jesus:- Jesus used this encounter to teach the disciples about the fulfillment of prophecies regarding the Messiah from the Scriptures. He explained how the Old Testament pointed to Him, helping them understand the significance of His life, death, and resurrection. The lesson for Christians is the importance of studying and understanding the Scriptures.

NUMBER SEVEN
(7a)
The event that led the people of Tyre and Sidon to refer to the speech of Herod Agrippa I as the voice of a god occurred during a celebration in honor of Emperor Claudius. Herod Agrippa I, dressed in royal attire, delivered a powerful speech to the crowd. As he spoke, he was praised for his eloquence and charisma. However, instead of humbly accepting the praise, Herod Agrippa allowed himself to be carried away by his own ego and arrogance. He embraced the applause and adoration, failing to recognize the limits of his own humanity.
As the people continued to praise him, Herod Agrippa I neglected to correct them, instead choosing to bask in their adulation. It was in this moment that the people of Tyre and Sidon, caught up in the fervor of the celebration, referred to Herod Agrippa’s speech as the voice of a god and not of man. This event highlights the dangerous consequence of arrogance and the potential for individuals to lose touch with reality when they believe themselves to be greater than they truly are.
(7b)
(i) Disconnection from reality: Arrogance can blind individuals to their own flaws and limitations, causing them to lose touch with reality. They may become deluded by their own grandeur and believe they are infallible or superior to others. This disconnection can lead to poor decision-making and an inability to accept constructive criticism, ultimately hindering personal growth and development.
(ii) Strained relationships: Arrogance often breeds contempt and alienates others. Individuals who display arrogance may be seen as self-centered and dismissive of others’ opinions and needs. This can strain relationships, both personal and professional, as people may become frustrated or resentful towards the arrogant individual. Tensions can arise, trust can be broken, and social connections can be damaged.
(iii) Limited personal growth: Arrogance can inhibit personal growth and learning. When someone believes they already know everything or are superior to others, they may close themselves off to new ideas, perspectives, and experiences. This can lead to stagnation and a lack of personal development. By refusing to acknowledge their own imperfections and limitations, arrogant individuals may miss out on valuable opportunities for growth and self-improvement.

SECTION C
(8a)
– James argues that true faith is demonstrated through actions. Mere hearing of the word without corresponding deeds is insufficient. He emphasizes that faith naturally results in righteous actions, and one’s deeds authenticate the sincerity of their faith.
– James warns against self-deception, where individuals may believe they have genuine faith simply by listening to teachings or professing their beliefs. However, true faith involves a transformative process that influences one’s behavior and lifestyle.
– James uses the analogy of a mirror and a forgetful man to illustrate that hearing the word without action is like forgetting one’s reflection immediately after seeing it. True believers, according to James, internalize the teachings and live them out, bearing fruits that reflect their faith.
– James implies that believers will be judged not only by what they know but by how they live out their faith. Those who hear the word but do not act on it face accountability. True Christianity involves a commitment to living in accordance with God’s principles.
(bi) Lack of Understanding:
Some believers may struggle to put their faith into practice due to a limited understanding of biblical teachings. Without a deep comprehension of the word of God, it can be challenging to apply it to daily life.
(ii) Fear of Persecution or Rejection:
Fear of persecution or societal rejection can hinder believers from openly expressing and practicing their faith. This fear may lead to a reluctance to take visible actions that align with their beliefs.
(iii) Worldly Distractions:
The allure of worldly pursuits, such as materialism, ambition, and pleasure, can divert believers’ attention from living out their faith. Distractions may lead to prioritizing worldly gains over spiritual growth and obedience to God’s commandments.
