WAEC Result: Full Meaning of No Result, Held, Withheld & Outstanding

West African Examination Council, WAEC School Candidates [May/June], Private Candidates [GCE] Held, Withheld, Outstanding and Pending Results Meaning and Updates.

Whenever WAEC results are released and candidates go online to check their results, usually some candidate’s results are successful and while some already know their fate but a few others are always left hanging after checking. They are met with some kind of grammar from the WAEC Result Checker Portal.

Whatsoever response got from the WAEC Result Checker Portal, in this article, I will briefly explain the terms used by WAEC to aid those experiencing such issue or the other as the case may be.

What does it mean when a candidate sees his or her result as WAEC held/withheld results? What does it mean to have an Outstanding in some subjects in WAEC result? What does it mean to be replied to by WAEC server with ‘No Result For This Candidate in the specified year‘?

This year alone, According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Result Statistics: The results of Two Hundred and Fifteen Thousand One Hundred and Forty-Nine (215,149) candidates, representing 13.98% of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A WITHHELD & OUTSTANDING WAEC RESULT?

What does it mean to have your WAEC Result WITHHELD? What does it mean to have some subjects display ‘OUTSTANDING’ in your WAEC result?  These are some of the questions candidates have been asking on a daily basis and due to no orientation, they have not been able to get answers to their questions.

Below is a detailed explanation/definition of the terms used by WAEC

A WITHHELD WAEC RESULT

A result is usually withheld in a situation whereby almost all the candidates in an exam center appear to have scored the same grades in the subjects written. Without much investigation, WAEC automatically suspects that the center is a special center for exam malpractices and other forms of examination misconduct resulting in WAEC withholding the results of the candidates while they carry out further investigation.

For the investigation, the results of every candidate in that center would be subjected to a scrutiny test. Any result that passes the test would be released while the latter may never be released.

Possibility of Release: Slim

A HELD WAEC RESULT

You might be wondering if there is really any difference between a withheld and held result. They may seem to have the same definition to you but in this case, a held result occurs when there is a remark that has to do with exam malpractice or examination offenses written on the candidate’s answer booklet.

Possibility of Release: Slim

AN OUTSTANDING WAEC RESULT

A candidate may have an outstanding result in a particular subject written mainly because they were recorded present for that examination but the total score on that subject has not been concluded. In most cases, it’s usually due to an extra answer sheet not properly attached or improper filling of examination number and other basic details.

Possibility of Release: High

NO RESULT FOR THIS CANDIDATE IN THE SPECIFIED YEAR

This is a very common case for candidates who usually register for WAEC in special centres.

Some of these special centres/schools are known to be highly disreputable and have been marked by the WAEC examination body for always conducting exam malpractice. When such a case is reported the entire result for such that centre is instantly canceled while further investigations are carried out.

Possibility of release: Medium.

NOTE: Always ensure you fill in all your details accurately when writing your WAEC Exam and checking your WAEC result. Also, make sure your writing is legible. There’s a difference between and 1, between  and O but candidates at times act carefree and don’t notice the difference. Entering the wrong details when checking their WAEC results could also result in you getting responses such as– No Result For This Candidate in The Specified Year.
