The examination was simultaneously and successfully conducted throughout the five-member countries – The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone using one and the same International Timetable.

You will recall that the examination, which was earlier scheduled to commence on 6th April 2020 could not, as a result of the outbreak of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

Everybody was scared stiff. Nobody wanted to take any action that could further put the life of the Nigerian Child in greater peril. However, after much discussions with relevant authorities, the examination finally commenced on 17″ August 2020 and ended on 12″ September 2020, spanning a period of four weeks.

This was a deliberate attempt to manage the COVID-19 crisis.

The Coordination of Examiners and Marking of Candidates’ Scripts took place at Eighty-four (84) Marking Venues throughout the country.

A total of Seventy Eight Thousand, Seven Hundred, and Ninety-Nine (78,799) Examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise.

The examination itself was a study in God’s divine intervention. At a time the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic was hanging dangerously in the air like a high-tension wire, WAEC, with the collaboration of the various levels of government and other stakeholders, safely and successfully conducted the examination without any of the candidates contracting the virus in the examination hall or dropping dead.

We are equally happy to inform you that during the conduct of the examination, there was no reported case of any invigilator, supervisor, WAEC staff, or any examination functionary for that matter, being infected with the virus as all the COVID-19 protocols were meticulously observed.
