You are required to provide the following for practical examination.

To each candidate, you are to provide the following Reagents

  1. Solution of HCl containing 3.65g per dm³ labeled Solution A.
  2. Solution of calcium hydroxide containing 0.71g solute per dm labeled Solution B.
  3. Mixture of KCl and AICI₃ labeled C.
  4. Dilute HCI (2M)
  5. Dilute HNO₃
  6. Dilute ammonia (2M)
  7. Dilute acetic acid
  8. Ammonium Chloride solution (2M)
  9. Silver Nitrate solution
  10. Sodium cobalt nitrite solution
  11. Distilled water
  12. Methyl orange indicator.

You are to provide the following apparatus and materials for each candidate:

  1. 25 cm³ pipette
  2. Burette
  3. Retort stand and clamp
  4. White tile
  5. Conical flasks (2 per candidate)
  6. Beakers (2 per candidate)
  7. Filter paper
  8. Test tubes at least 4 per candidate
  9. Spatula
  10. Bunsen burner

Institutions should provide the following materials in a ratio of one specimen per candidate or a suitable ratio as the case may be.

Items 1-9 should be labelled as Specimens.

  1. Specimen A – Giant land snail
  2. Specimen B – Spider
  3. Specimen C – Bird
  4. Specimen D – Tapewom
  5. Specimen F – Kidney of a rodent
  6. Specimen P – Okra fruit
  7. Specimen Q – Rice/Maize fruit
  8. Specimen R – OrangeTomato fruit
  9. Specimen S – Mango/Coconut/Avocado pear fruit
  10. Sharp knives
  11. Hand lens

Each candidate is to be provided with the following apparatus:

  1. Converging lens (15cm focal length)
  2. Ray box with crossed wire
  3. Screen
  4. Three (3) Perforated metre rules
  5. Knife edge
  6. Lens holders
  7. Electric bulb
  8. G-Clamp
  9. Retort stand with clamp and boss head
  10. Stopwatch
  11. Thread
  12. Sets of weights (one 150g mass, three of 100g mass)
  13. Vernier Caliper
  14. Pin pointer (1 optical pin)
  15. Plasticine
  16. Masking/paper tape
