The Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road in Kogi State has become the kidnappers and bandits playfield, as six staff of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were abducted by gunmen on Sunday.
A staff of JAMB, who confirmed the abduction, said that the victims were from the head office in Abuja and were headed to Kogi West in preparation for the mock UTME exams. Speaking on Monday, the spokesperson of Kogi State Police Command, DSP William Ayah said immediately they got the information, the State Police Commissioner, CP Ayuba Ede deployed special squad to comb the area and one of the JAMB officials by name Hamza was rescued and is presently receiving treatment in the hospital.
He also added that one identity card belonging to another JAMB official was recovered in the bush. DSP Ayah stressed further that his men are still in the bush trying to locate and rescue the rest staff from the suspected kidnappers. In a related development, a staff of the Federal Ministry of Works on Saturday narrowly escaped when suspected kidnappers opened fire on his vehicle, leading to an accident.
The incident happened between Oshokoshoko and Obajana around 5:30 pm. The federal staff and the only other occupant of the vehicle are still in the hospital.
